The staples are gone and the wound is closed. Now, we continue down the long and winding road. Just kidding. I woke up from a nap involuntarily reciting terrible poetry in my head. Thought I’d share a couple bars with you.
In all seriousness, Mister is doing better than expected! Today, he was checked by the main doctor, and she is taking him off all medications except trazodone. Trazodone should help him stay relaxed. Turns out, when they brought him back to the exam room, he saw his own shadow. Meaning, he still has 4 more weeks of crate rest. We need to make sure he stays relaxed and comfortable for the remaining time.
In other news, with the staples gone, we can finally give him a bath! He was overdue before his surgery so it is definitely time. I’ve been washing all of his bedding and blankets and will be giving him a celebratory swim in the kitchen sink any minute now. As we speak, he is staring at me from the comfort of his bed with no idea what is coming. Let the games begin!
Quick tip: It’s important dogs with IVDD and other back injuries don’t walk or stand on slippery surfaces. This includes hardwood, laminate, tile, and, you guessed it, kitchen sinks. They should have as much grip under their feet as possible to avoid slipping and putting undue pressure in the wrong places. Because of this, we have a rubber mat we put down in the sink for bath time. It really helps a lot.
The last few days have felt longer and more tiring than usual, but I’ve learned to be ok with that. Life is not always exciting. Sometimes it’s drab, uneventful, heavy, or sad. Sometimes it’s all the above. For, what would the good days be without the bad? Could they even be good at all? I don’t think so.
That’s all for now, Dylan
